At Bon-Ton, we do more than just sell great merchandise. We care about the neighborhoods that we serve, connecting with tens of thousands of people every day. We know that in order to be good neighbors, we have a responsibility to the community.

Through our signature giving campaigns, associate workplace giving, and volunteer efforts, Bon-Ton contributes approximately $30 million each year to support non-profit organizations that are in the communities where we do business.

We are committed to making a difference in the lives of our customers and associates and to being the best hometown department store for the family, for the home, for generations.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Goodwill

The simple act of donating during the Goodwill Sale has a positive and lasting impact on people in our communities. The donations received in our stores each spring and fall generate revenue that enables Goodwill to give individuals in need the resources and training they need to rejoin the workforce.

  • For over 23 years, Goodwill Industries and the Bon-Ton Stores have worked together to collect donations supporting Goodwill’s employment programs.
  • We are proud to be Goodwill’s largest and longest-standing department store donation drive partnership.
  • In 2016 alone, nearly 4.1 million pounds worth of donations were collected, providing over 588,714 hours of training for people wanting to find employment.
  • In the 20+ years we’ve been together, we’ve collected over 100 million pounds worth of donations supporting Goodwill’s mission.
United Way

Bon-Ton Associates in 25 states play a leadership role by investing their time and monetary contributions to build a stronger community through United Way programs.

  • In 2016, we donated a total of $1.7 million.
  • Whether it’s through payroll deduction, bake sales, Wear-Your-Jeans days, raffles or other outside-the-box ideas, Bon-Ton associates know that United Way unites people and resources to build a stronger community.
Community Day

Community Days gives local schools and 501c3 nonprofit organizations an opportunity to raise funds to fulfill their mission. Participating organizations sell $5 coupon booklets and retain 100% of the $5 booklet price. Since 1999, this event has raised over $142 million!

  • A fundraising event for schools, nonprofits and community organizations, our Community Days event helps groups of every size achieve their missions and fundraising goals.
  • By selling booklets containing coupons to our stores and then retaining 100% of the $5 coupon booklet price, our most recent event raised $3.8 million for over 7000 schools and 501c3 nonprofit organizations.
  • Since its inception in 1999, over $138 million has been donated to schools and nonprofits thanks to Community Days participation.
Boys & Girls Club

Giving the gift of a Great Future by providing a safe place for kids to learn and grow – all while having fun after school and all year long.

  • Through donations from the sale of specially purchased plush toys during the fall/holiday season, we are proud to help give the gift of a great future by keeping kids safe after school and all year long through activities and services provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Last year alone, we were able to raise $240,000. And since 1994, we’ve donated over $2.5 million.
CABC

Finding a cure is an important mission; breast cancer affects 1 in 8 people. The Bon-Ton Stores is dedicated to finding a cure by donating to leading cancer research facilities throughout the country.

  • Since 1998, one of our main fundraising focuses has been the fight to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research.
  • To this end, specially purchased merchandise is available in our year round Pink Shops, and a portion of the sale of each item goes toward the search for a cure.
  • Since its inception, we’ve donated $5.2 million to fund breast cancer research.
  • Donations support the following cancer centers: Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center, The Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation, Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota, and Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.
  • Since 2012, Bon-Ton has partnered with STOMP Out Bullying™ for Blue Shirt Day World Day of Bullying Prevention™.
  • STOMP Out Bullying™ is the leading national bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization for kids and teens in the U.S., and is recognized as the most influential anti-bullying organization in America and beyond.
  • Focusing on supporting families through research, improving birth outcomes and preventing premature birth, the March of Dimes has been a Bon-Ton partner since 2013.
  • We help further their mission through monetary donation and volunteer efforts including the March for Babies Walk.
  • A charitable nonprofit started by our exclusive menswear designer John Bartlett, the Tiny Tim Rescue Fund is dedicated to help give every dog and cat the chance for a better, happier life.
  • With the purchase of our John Bartlett pet products, a donation is made to this charity, which then in turn helps animal shelters in our communities.
  • A percent of Community Days booklets sold in our stores during the spring event benefits heart health awareness and research at the American Heart Association.
  • With Soles 4 Souls, a nonprofit global social enterprise, we are committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing.
  • During our twice-yearly Sole Sisters event, $1 from every pair of shoes sold benefits Soles 4 Souls. Also, every April, shoe coupons are sold with the dollars going directly to that organization.
  • A percent of Community Days booklets sold in our stores during the fall Community Days event benefits Operation Homefront, who helps to build strong, stable, and secure military families that can thrive in the communities that they’ve worked so hard to protect.

VOLUNTEERING

We encourage & embrace service in our communities through associate volunteerism. Caring for our Community encourages our associates to give back in meaningful ways. The Bon-Ton Stores Foundation inspires associates to be leaders within their community and to volunteer their time to worthy causes which support the corporate mission and Company values.
